Michaella Krajicek outshines Kristina Mladenovic in the 2nd qualifying round – US Open 2011
Michaella Krajicek outshone Kristina Mladenovic in the second qualifying round of the US Open 2011. The players were meeting for the first time on the hard courts of USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. In just one hour
and 36 minutes Dutch Krajicek was able to rush past French Mladenovic with a score of 7-5, 6-1
Commencing the set was Krajicek who had opened the set to 1-0 by smashing four aces and hence, bagged the first game without any opposition. During the next four games they won back to back on their respective serves. In the sixth
game Krajicek broke her opponent for the first time and took the lead at 4-2. However, the French was not to be left behind and in the next game broke the Dutch’s serve and won a game on her serve to even out the score at 4-4 in the eighth game. The players
again won on alternative serves and eventually in the eleventh game Krajicek won on her serve and went on to conquer the set by breaking her opponent’s serve for the last time.
As the players battled on court five, the crowd cheered them on and the first set was a close shave between the world number 183 Michaella Krajicek and world number 188 Kristina Mladenovic but the Dutch won the set by restricting
her opponent to 5 games and set the tone for the second.
Amidst the second set, the two had won on alternate serves until the third game as Krajicek took the lead by winning on her serve and then in the fourth game the 22 year-old Dutch broke the French Adversary to make the score card
read 3-1. After winning another game on her serve in the sixth, she again broke Mladenovic’s serve to conclude an en-route victory in the seventh game and out of the seven games played the world number 183 won six, except one.
The second set saw a comprehensive victory for Michaella Krajicek and she was able to secure a berth in the third round, where she will be playing Hungarian Melinda Czink. Currently ranked at world number 165 just beaten Mariya
Koryttseva by surviving a mid match lapse.
Michaella Krajicek has played many top players this year and has shown tremendous performance in her style and technique. A semi-finalist at Kuala Lumpur she reached her career high ranking of world number 30 on February the 11th
2008.
