Michaella Krajicek outsmarts Yvonne Meusburger in the second round qualifiers of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix
It was a surprise ending to the match as the qualifying seventh seed Yvonne Meusburger of Austria got defeated in the second round of the qualifying draws at the hands of the Dutch woman, Michaella Krajicek at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix played at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany on Sunday. Krajicek took one hour and forty one minutes to take down her opponent in straight sets 7-6(4), 6-2, to move on to the final stage of the qualifiers of the WTA (Women’s tennis Association) tournament.
The 22-year-old Dutch toiled a bit in the opener, winning the set in the tie-breaker round but cruised through the next set with the utmost ease to register victory. It was the second consecutive win for Krajicek against Meusburger, whom she defeated lastly at Miami in 2010. The all time head-to-head record for the Dutch now improved to 2-1 against Meusburger after her victory at Stuttgart.
27-year-old Austrian had a good start to the contest and displayed some signs of class early in the game, which gradually faded away. She served with 66 per cent precision, better than Krajicek who delivered just 51 per cent first serve on target. Despite of a decent first serve, Meusburger failed to bag sufficient points to outplay the Dutch opponent as she won 29 of the total serve points in the game.
Intense tennis was witnessed in the opening set of the contest with both women tending to get early advantage by their aggressive game plays. A series of serve breaks was observed right away, with Meusburger cracking in the first break point of the match in the third game. Krajicek was up to the task and stung two consecutive serve breaks to step into the lead at 5-3. It was then Meusburger’s turn who banded two more break points but a third serve break from the Dutch competitor dragged the opener into a tie breaker round. Krajicek proved his superiority in the tie breaker and reeled off the first set at 7-6(4).
The Austrian had proved to be a wall against the power hitting of Krajicek in the following set. The Dutch stung three serve breaks in the second set, while dropping her serve just once to rocket away to victory at 6-2. Krajicek has to go through Beatriz Garcia Vidagany of Spain in the next stage before she gets access to the main draws of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. Beatriz Garcia Vidagany upset the second seed Japanese, Kimiko Date Krumm in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(4), in the second round qualifiers at Stuttgart a day ago.
