Michaella Krajicek rallies past Julie Coin to reach the quarters – Bell Challenge 2011
Dutch Michaella Krajicek struggled to overpower French qualifier Julie Coin in a three setter nail biter match at the Bell Challenge 2011, a WTA International event held on the indoor hard courts in Quebec, Canada. She registered
a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 success over the 28-year-old Coin to book a last four spot on Wednesday.
Ranked 138th in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, Krajicek needed a third set to triumph over the Frenchwoman in one hour and forty-seven minutes on their first meeting. Her solid performance not only earned her
a breadstick but also a final four spot at this hard court event.
The Delft native, Krajicek confidently entered the Canadian court and plucked in entire serves without facing any breakpoint. She founded the much awaited break in the eleventh game to win the opener by winning seven games to five.
The Dutchwoman smacked five aces and manifested a 74 percent first serve share which was much better as compared to Coin’s 53 percent. Krajicek also registered a superb 91 percent win on it and converted one out of two breakpoint opportunities to her advantage.
The pair fought hard in the second set as well and smoothly held their opening serves respectively. Coin, however, edged past the Dutch after breaking her serve to love in the last game and clinched the equaliser with a 6-4 win.
She also registered amazing stats to her; the French hammered six aces, clobbered a higher first serve share and earned a fabulous 87 percent win on it. Furthermore, she saved the only breakpoint faced and cashed in on the only breakpoint chance to her advantage.
The furious Krajicek found her rhythm again in the final set. After the Frenchwoman held her serve in the first game, she unleashed a flurry of powerful groundstrokes to pocket the next six games in a row and sealed the deal with
a breadstick. She produced a first serve share of 50 percent and registered a perfect win on it.
Next challenge for the Dutchwoman is a local hero, fourth seed Rebecca Marino who battled past her compatriot Aleksandra Wozniak in three sets to reach this spot.
