Michel Bastos confident in his abilities ahead of UEFA Champions League game – Ligue 1 news
Olympique Lyonnais playmaker Michel Bastos believes that his abilities can help Lyon in the opening encounter of UEFA Champions League against Ajax Amsterdam.
The former LOSC Lille midfielder was linked with a possible move to Serie A side Juventus early this summer, but following his desire to stay at Stade de Gerland the Brazilian international had refused the offer from the Italian side.
In an interview to the French sports daily, L’Equipe, the 28-year-old said that Coach Remi Garde was the first person to encourage his decision to stay at Lyon and Garde’s speech really inspired him, leaving no doubt about his decision to remain in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899.
Bastos further revealed that he feels more comfortable around new coach Remi Garde than he used to under his predecessor, Claude Puel.
“This season I made mistakes, as against Dijon where I shot two wavered shots at goal, if it were Claude Puel I would perhaps been called off at half time. Today, I can try and I know that I will have the support of the coach.” He was quoted saying.
The confident Pelotas native is aware of his performance in the starting of the 2011/12 season. “I know that I can be brought off anytime if I’m not doing very well in the game. However I can help the team by playing a decisive pass or scoring a goal.” Regarding
the Champions League match against Ajax he said, “I can still help the team. Today, yes I can do better.”

Although Lyon stand unbeaten in the 2011/12 Ligue 1 Championnat, the Rhone club will have to work harder to be able to qualify for the knockout stages of Champions League as they are up against the likes of Real Madrid, Dinamo Zagreb and Ajax Amsterdam.
