Michel Bourez downs Kieren Perrow to enter Round 4 of Quiksilver Pro France – 2011 ASP World Tour
The third round of the Quiksilver Pro France, which is the eighth stop on the 2011 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour, kept the action running at the renowned beach in La Graviere, France, as Tahiti’s Michel Bourez squared off with Australia’s
Kieren Perrow in the second heat for a place in the fourth round on Sunday, October 9.
The two surfers gave it their all during the heat-to-head battle, but it was Bourez who managed to walk away with top honours in the end, consequently getting his place confirmed in Round 4 while bringing the competition to premature end for his rival, Perrow.
Sitting at No.10 in the ASP World Tour Rankings, the 25-year-old Bourez has looked in good shape over the last few months. Even though he has not been able to clinch a single event victory yet, he never failed to pose as a serious threat for the rest of
the talented line-up, giving his competitors a run for their money
The Tahiti-based surfer had looked quite threatening on the first day of the latest elite tour event and had little trouble in clinching the win to jump straight into the third round despite the challenging surfing conditions. The conditions turned out to
be pretty similar on Sunday as he prepared himself to take on the 34-year-old Perrow.
The Australian had looked slightly out of rhythm so far, though a strong performance in his Round 2 heat had shown that he could surely make a solid impact on his day. Pitted against Bourez in Round 3, he sure had a daunting task ahead of him, though it
was nothing that he was incapable of handling.
As the second heat kicked off, Bourez got down to business right away by catching a wave to pull out a few impressive tricks from his arsenal and earning 6.83 points for the effort. He followed it up with an even more impressive 6.93-point wave, moving to
a heat-total of 13.76 points.
Getting off to a shaky start, Perrow went through a lengthy and desperate search for a decent score, eventually posting a 4.70 on the score-board. He needed to acquire a huge score off his second business-wave to get his hands on victory, but only managed
to score 6.90 points off it, consequently finishing with a heat-total of 11.60 points. The 2.16-point deficit forced him to surrender victory to his rival, Bourez.
Talking to a reporter a reporter after the heat, Bourez said, “Last year I finished 11th and this year my goal was to finish Top 10. I've had a pretty good year so far and my results are going pretty well right now. Hopefully I'm able to reach my goal by
the end of the year.”
The Tahitian is surely looking strong and seems to be headed in the right direction so far. With his victory in Round 3, he moved into the fourth round, where he would face America’s Taylor Knox in a battle for the Quarter-Final spot.
