Michel Vorm and Phil Jagielka shine - Fantasy Premier League Team of the Week – Part 1
In what has to be a fairly bizarre weekend in the Barclays English Premier League, there were a number of results that left fans, pundits and Fantasy Premier League managers scratching their heads.
Gameweek 5 will be a weekend for Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea striker, Fernando Torres to forget. Arsenal and Liverpool both conceded four goals each and lost their respective matches, which leaves a huge points deficit for managers who had defenders from
those teams in their Fantasy Premier League squad.
However, there were many players who starred on the weekend, though not many of them were the usual superstar suspects one would expect.
Michel Vorm (Swansea)
The Swansea Goal keeper was at his brilliant best during his Gameweek 5 match against West Bromwich Albion as the keeper managed to top the Goal Keeping points charts with an impressive eight points.
Keeping a clean sheet is something every keeper in a Fantasy Premier League side is expected to do, but with so many high-profile keepers failing to do so, it seems Vorm takes the prize as the best.
The clean sheet earned the keeper the standard four points and the minutes played category saw him earn another two points to make up the six points which come standard with a clean sheet. However, with six saves to his name and every three saves earning
the Keeper a point, Vorm eventually ended with a total of eight points we have been praising.
Owned by an impressive 30% of Fantasy Premier League managers, the keeper is slowly making a name for himself on the platform and everyone is taking note.
Titus Bramble (Sunderland)
In a performance that had us dreading the end of days, Titus Bramble did what no one was expecting and actually managed to earn more than two points. In fact, in what was a real ‘shocker’, the blacklisted (by us) defender managed to top the Defenders charts
with a massive 14 points.
One of the best players on the pitch that day, Bramble’s performance was noted and duly awarded two Bonus points. A clean sheet earned the defender another four points and the 90 minutes played earned him another two. The reader must be wondering where he
got the extra six points from and the answer will have readers reeling: By scoring a goal, in the opposition’s net this time.
14 points in Gameweek 5, we salute you Titus Bramble of Sunderland.
Phil Jagielka (Everton)
The Everton defender put in the kind of performance which justified Arsenal’s reported interest in the player. It seems defenders were in the mood for scoring goals this weekend as Jagielka continued the trend and scored for the six-point jackpot.
Two points for Minutes played and three Bonus points for a ‘Man of the Match’ performance later, and the England International had a tally of 11 points, which is impressive because defenders do not usually reach double figures if they concede a goal.
