Sevilla boss, José http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Miguel-Gonzalez-c25557, has praised the performance displayed by his players despite their 2-0 defeat to Malaga on Saturday.
Two second-half strikes by Martin Demichelis and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ramon-c30533 Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.
Despite their home defeat, the Sevilla boss believes his players did not do anything wrong during the game.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-c25453 mentioned that he was impressed with his side’s performance in the first-half and wanted to keep with the same momentum after the interval. However, it was the early goal they conceded in the second period that changed everything.
“We had a great first half and were not in trouble. We wanted it to stay the same in the second half, but after three of four minutes we let in and we were in trouble.”
That is why the coach thinks his players did not do anything that deserved to be criticized. He believes it was not just their night.
“But I have nothing to say against my players.”
The Spaniard stated that his players played the game according to the plan. However, the former Getafe boss feels they lost the game because they could not take advantage of their chances.
“We played the game the way I think we should. If we fail [to take chances] then at the end of the day, you pay.”
Looking back on the game, Michel admitted that there were some issues in the attitude and positioning of his players. Regardless, he is convinced that his players did not do anything wrong.
“We can talk about attitude and positioning errors, but we cannot say that today we did anything wrong.”
Finally, after analyzing the whole game, the 49-year-old is of the opinion that if his players show the same performance they have shown against Malaga, then Sevilla will be fine going forward.
“Going forward, if we play like we did in the first half, we'll be fine.”
This loss means Sevilla are losing more ground to their rivals for a position in the Champions League.
The Andalusians are currently sitting on the 13th position with 19 points. They are nine points adrift of Malaga who are sitting on the much coveted fourth spot for the Champions League.
