Michelangelo and Tommy's Secret triumph at Goodwood on 25th May, 2012
With rider William Buick on his back, Michelangelo was unstoppable in the Casco Cocked Hat Stakes, which took place at Goodwood on 25th May, 2012, where he used his 4-6 chance well to his advantage, and narrowly notched the
victory.
The John Gosden trained bay colt seemed unlikely to win in the early stages of the race, but gained pace in the final furlong and successfully broke through the wire first, half-length ahead of the Andrew Balding trained, Expense Claim, whereas Charles
Hills’s charge Perennial stood third, 1 ¼ lengths behind the runner-up.
It seems that after this brilliant victory, the son of Galileo, out of mare Intrigued, is en route to Royal Ascot, where he will compete in the King Edward VII Stakes.
Charlie Gordon-Watson, who represents the owner, B. Nielsen, discussed future plans of the runner and stated:
"I don't know what the trainer says but I know the owner is thinking that way.
"He's a work in progress, this horse, and his future is ahead of him going into next year. The Derby was the original plan, but time went against us. He's out of a Darshaan mare, a classic mile and a half pedigree, and if they are by Galileo as well
and show a bit of speed, they are on the right track."
Goodwood also proved to be a lucky venue for Tommy’s Secret, who is under the ownership of Mrs. Jane Chapple-Hyam, who also trains the grey gelding.
The son of Sakhee´s Secret, out of mare La Gessa, entered the Goodwood Maiden Auction Stakes as a favourite with a 5-2 shot, and made his trip worthwhile as he notched the victory in a grand fashion, 2 ¾ lengths before the Peter Makin trained, Whistling
Buddy.
The two-year-old runner demonstrated massive potential and showed remarkable improvement, as his earlier performance in the Equestrianartuk.com E B F Maiden Stakes at Chester was less impressive since he finished fifth over five furlongs on 10th May,
2012.
It looks like the young runner is on his way to pave a brilliant career, given he keeps piling on victories.
