Michelle Alonso Morales pockets Women’s 100m breaststroke gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Michelle Alonso Morales of Spain pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke in SB14 category on eighth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Thursday, September 6.
The Spanish swimmer smothered hopes of her opponents in the two-lap breaststroke discipline as she occupied gold medal of the event.
With her impressive performance, she not only earned the title of the race but also improved the world record of the event by submitting a time of 1 minute and 16.85 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained almost four seconds ahead of Magda Toeters of Netherlands, who proved her eligibility for silver medal of the event by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 20.64 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Shu Hang Leung of Hong Kong, China, who stayed almost 0.60 seconds behind and completed the victory stand by finishing third in the race with a timing of 1 minute and 21.21 seconds.
Similarly, the bronze medallist was trailed by Kayla Clarke of Australia, who stayed almost 1.50 seconds apart and ended fourth in the race by submitting a time of 1 minute and 22.87 seconds.
Clarke was traced by Amanda Fowler of Australia, who stayed 0.43 seconds behind and submitted a time of 1 minute and 23.30 seconds for fifth position.
Fowler was followed by Marlou van der Kulk of Netherlands, who stayed 1.13 seconds away from her former finisher and finished sixth in the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 24.43 seconds.
With her exhausting efforts, Kulk managed to edge out her closest swimmer, Tamara Medarts of Belgium, who stayed only 0.15 seconds apart ended seventh in the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 24.58 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Alicia Mandin of France, who was 0.93 seconds slower and clocked a time of 1 minute and 25.51 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Alonso was very delighted with her gold claiming effort and said that she would struggle hard to defend her title in forthcoming events.
