Michelle Cefal captures Women’s 200m butterfly title – Speedo Junior National Championships
Michelle Cefal of Tualatin Hills Swim Club captured gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly on initial day of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Monday, August 13.
Cefal, who dominated the prelims of the distant butterfly race, served notice of her talent by capturing gold medal of the event. She remained considerably ahead of her opponents from the start and transpired on the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her astonishing pace, she faced no difficulty in outsmarting her opponents as she occupied gold medal of the discipline in a time of 2 minutes and 10.35 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained almost full body length ahead of her strongest opponent, Madison Wright of Kingfish Aquatic Club, who made her way to the podium for silver medal by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 11.28 seconds.
Wright was chased by Kathryn McLaughlin, who geared up her pace in the final round and secured bronze medal of the discipline by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 12.92 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Caitlin Casazza of SwimMAC Carolina, who remained 0.21 seconds slower and hit the wall for fourth position with a timing of 2 minutes and 13.13 seconds.
Similarly, fifth fastest qualification spot of the race was obtained by Taylor Katz of Sarasota YMCA Sharks, who stayed only 0.41 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 13.54 seconds.
Katz was trailed by Sonia Wang of The Claremont Club, who was only an inch away from overpowering her former finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 13.58 seconds.
Wang was traced by Katelyn Sowinski of Eagle Swim Team, who was nearly 2.50 seconds apart and posted a time of 2 minutes and 16.18 seconds for seventh position.
Subsequently, eighth finest spot of the event was secured by Anna Quinn of Conejo Simi Swim Club, who completed her race in a time of 2 minutes and 16.19 seconds.
Furthermore, Cefal expressed happiness after receiving gold medal of the race at the medal distribution ceremony.
