Michelle Cefal clinches Women’s 100m butterfly gold – Speedo Junior National Championships
Michelle Cefal of Tualatin Hills Swim Club clinched gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on day three of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 15.
Cefal sustained her fastest qualification spot of the butterfly discipline in the playoff as she showed her urgency towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
She faced no competition from her challengers throughout the race and made her way to the finishing wall for first position by submitting a wonderful timing of 59.31 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Kathryn McLaughlin of Mission Viejo Nadadores, who remained 0.50 seconds slower from her former finisher and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a nice effort of 59.81 seconds.
McLaughlin was followed by Dana Grindall of SoNoCo Swim Club, who remained nearly full body length behind and touched the wall with a fantastic timing of 1 minute and 00.77 seconds for bronze medal.
The third position holder was chased by Lauren Case of Chattahoochee Gold, who stayed 0.43 seconds behind and hit the finishing wall for fourth position by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 01.20 seconds.
Case was trailed by Meaghan Raab of Hershey Aquatic, who was only 0.19 seconds slower from her former finisher and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 01.39 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was secured by Ella Eastin of Irvine Novaquatics and Hannah Weiss of King Aquatic Club, who failed to surpass each other over the finishing end and tapped the wall with a same timing.
They remained 0.09 seconds slower from Raab and tapped the finishing end with an identical efforts of 1 minute and 01.48 seconds.
The duo was followed by Bailey Nero of Fort Collins Area Swim Team, who was 0.40 seconds slower and occupied eighth position with a timing of 1 minute and 01.88 seconds.
In addition, Cefal received huge appreciation from the crowd for her notable efforts in the 100m butterfly discipline and expressed her desire of accomplishing the same at superior levels of swimming.
