Michelle Cefal wins Women’s 100m butterfly heats – Speedo Junior National Championships
Michelle Cefal of Tualatin Hills Swim Team won the preliminary rounds Women’s 100m butterfly on third day of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 15.
The 16-year-old Cefal lived up to the expectations of her supporters as she dominated the qualifying rounds of double lap butterfly discipline in a fantastic manner.
She faced little competition from Kathryn McLaughlin of Mission Viejo Nadadores in the race but managed to outperform her pace on the finishing end for fastest spot in the finals.
Cefal stayed half a body length faster from her following swimmer and transpired on the finishing blockade for first position with an effort of 1 minute and 00.03 seconds.
She was chased by McLaughlin, who remained 0.40 seconds slower form her and made her way to the wall as second fastest swimmer by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 00.43 seconds.
McLaughlin was chased by Dana Grindall of SoNoCo Swim Club, who stayed nearly 0.60 seconds slower and qualified into the playoff as third fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 1 minute and 01.21 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying position of the race was obtained by Lauren Case of Chattahoochee Gold, who remained 0.19 seconds slower and finished her swim in a time of 1 minute and 01.40 seconds.
Case was chased by Ella Eastin of Irvine Novaquatics, who remained 0.20 seconds slower and occupied fifth fastest spot of the event by posting a time of 1 minute and 01.60 seconds.
Eastin was trailed by Bailey Nero of Fort Collins Area Swim Team, who remained 0.13 seconds behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 01.73 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was secured by Hannah Weiss of King Aquatic Club, who was 0.04 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 01.77 seconds.
Weiss was traced by Meaghan Raab of Hershey Aquatic, who ended eighth in the race with an effort of 1 minute and 01.82 seconds.
In addition, Cefal was happy with her effort and said that she would try her best to secure the top of podium.
