Michelle Chan Ky proves too strong for Lianne Tan in qualifying round of Swiss Open GP Gold 2012
New Zealand’s upcoming player Michelle Chan Ky proved her mettle as she crushed Lianne Tan of Belgium in Women’s Singles qualifying round of Swiss Open GP Gold 2012 on Tuesday, March 13, in Switzerland.
Michelle, who has been working hard to find a good flow for the last six months, showed a convincing improvement in all aspects of her game as she put up superb display of attacking badminton against the Belgian and won the match quite easily.
On the other hand, Lianne could not stop the aggressive progress of her rival in the match and lost it in straight games without creating an impact.
In the first set, Lianne started her campaign in an impressive manner as she played with precision and remained in control. She also managed to take an early lead by reaching at 9-6.
However, she could not maintain it as Michelle lifted up her level of play and scored five consecutive points and established a small lead of 11-9 until the break.
After the interval, Lianne again played well and managed to bridge the gap by reaching at 14-14. At this stage, Michelle changed her game plan and started to play half-court rallies and remained successful in putting pressure on her opponent.
Michelle remained on track in the concluding phase of opening game and bagged it with a five-point margin of 21-16.
In the second game, both ladies kept the local fans engaged by putting up fabulous show of attacking badminton and remained close until the end of opening half.
No one missed any chance to earn points and kept on snapping each other’s heel until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Lianne tried to build lead with aggression but failed as her opponent was also in complete control of rallies. The score remained equal on the score board until the ending stage.
Lianne was ahead at 18-16 when Michelle found a good rhythm and executed a few powerful strokes in the right areas.
Michelle scored five consecutive points and took the game with a margin of 21-18. She won this straight-set contest with a 21-16 and 21-18 score on the board.
