Michelle Li ousts Qufei Chen in quarter-final of Canadian International Challenge – Badminton news
Canada’s experienced player, Michelle Li, stayed on the right track in the Women’s Singles quarter-final where she outclassed her compatriot Qufei Chen at the 2013 Ottawa Canadian International Challenge on Thursday, June 27, in Ottawa.
The in-form Michelle, who is number three seed in Women’s Singles main draw of Canadian International, continued showing up her impressive class and remained successful in crushing her lower ranked opponent in just 28 minutes.
Michelle sailed smoothly throughout this quarter-final battle and she did not let her rival to put up strong show at any stage. She easily finished up this contest in two games with an authoritative 21-10 and 21-15 score on the board.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Qufei could not continue her giant killing performance in this international tournament. She could not cope up with the fast rallies and variation of her rival. She eventually crashed out without creating a strong impact.
In the opening game, Michelle showed urgency in setting up an early lead as she played attacking badminton and create pressure on her opponent from the starting points.
The higher ranked Michelle was at her best as her smashes landed perfectly in targeted areas. She kept Qufei moving in all areas and easily set up a huge lead until the break.
In the ending half of first game, the impressive Michelle did not show mercy to her team-mate as she continued putting up strong show and bagged the game with a lopsided 21-10 score on the board.
In the following game, Qufei also showed her brilliance as she played with aggression. In the first few rallies, she remained successful in posing a little threat to her higher ranked opponent.
However, Michelle gradually injected pace into her strokes and also because quick in taking the bird. She played with aggression and took a reasonable lead until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Michelle did not let Qufei to get close at any stage as she continued playing with the same speed. Her fast drops, attacking lobs and powerful smashes stretched the gap on the board and she finished up the second game with a
convincing 21-15 score on the board.
