Michelle Li qualifies for final round of 2013 Canadian International Challenge – Badminton news
Women’s Singles expert Michelle Li lived up to the expectations and marched into the final round of Ottawa Canadian International Challenge on Friday, June 28, 2013.
She was up against an American campaigner Jamie Subandhi who stood tall throughout this 52-minute tussle. Both contenders challenged each other throughout the three sets and wrapped this showdown with a nerve-racking result of 18-21, 21-8 and 21-12.
Michelle lost the first set of match but she did not disappoint the badminton lovers of Canada in the final two games. She bagged both valuable match points on merit and ensured her presence in the title match of home event.
In the opening game, Michelle was bit sluggish in the beginning as she could not move swiftly across the court and dropped many vital points.
The opposing shuttler manipulated this situation masterly and established a significant lead on points table. Jamie ruled the court in many consecutive rallies and strengthened her grip over game.
She did not lose focus in first half of the set and placed a decent total without any trouble. She continued with same flow even after the mid-game break and left her challenger far behind with an impressive result of 21-18.
However, it proved her last success in this international series as Michelle did not give her even a single chance to prevail. The Canadian shuttler did not show any sign of bewilderment and performed tremendously well even after the first set loss.
She played with an authoritative approach from very first stroke till the last one and proved herself superior in all areas of the game. At first, she pushed the opposing shuttler on back foot by registering a mountainous figure of 11 and then cast her away
with a concluding score of 21-8.
Unexpectedly, decider proved a dead contest as the American shuttler hardly showed any resistance and surrendered tamely.
On the other hand, Michelle showed consistency in her craft and sealed a splendid victory. She maintained an unassailable lead of nine points and swept the table with 21-12 margin.
Now she will compete Christin Tsai for the Women’s Singles title of Canadian International Challenge.
