Michelle Li stamps Christin Tsai in title match of 2013 Canadian National Championships
Women’s Singles campaigner Michelle Li served notice of her dominance in the final round of Yonex Canadian National Championships and thrashed Christin Tsai on February 2, 2013.
Both native shuttlers remained head-to-head for 44 minutes while piling the decisive figures of 21-16 and 21-18.
They earned great deal of admiration for putting a commendable show of badminton skills in both segments of the showdown.
However, the top seeded player of this tournament managed to clutch the top spot on victory stand by sealing a straight-set win.
Michelle mounted pressure by pocketing the opening match point with distinction and then capitalised this psychological edge to lock the honour.
In first set of the match, both compatriot shuttlers remained equal in the establishing rallies. They snapped at each other’s heels and did not allow each other to gain an early advantage.
The game kept swinging between them all the way to half time and this mesmerising show of badminton craft kept the audience glued to their chairs.
At the mid-game break, Michelle was just few steps ahead of her rival but she widened the gap on points table immediately after the interval.
She bagged couple of valuable points without any interruption and strengthened her grip over game. This flurry of power packed strokes confined Christin in the rear court and she failed to come back.
Michelle did not show any mercy in the final stage and swept the table with an impressive result of 21-16.
In second set of the match, she had a horrendous start as the opposing shuttler played with great precision and kept her at the lower end.
Michelle kept struggling in the establishing rallies and this allowed Christin to establish a decent lead.
However, things changed dramatically just before the interval as Michelle tipped the scale in her favour with a staggering knock.
She finished first half of the set with a respectable score and then started beating immediately after the one-minute interval.
Though, Christin tried hard to counterbalance the situation but Michelle managed to maintain a decent lead. She registered a tight yet decisive margin of 21-18 and earned the right to raise Women’s Singles trophy.
