Michelle McKeehan dominates Women’s 200m breast-stroke meet – 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals
ABSC’s Michelle McKeehan dominated proceedings with her performance in the Women’s 200m breast-stroke meet on the concluding day of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals.
The 200m breast-stroke was the fourth event of the final session, where the 21-year-old McKeehan displayed her phenomenal swim to earn the gold medal of the Women’s event.
McKeehan, who qualified into the breast-stroke finals with a prominent lead of almost four seconds over the second fastest swimmer, produced a time of 2 minutes and 31.93 seconds for the title of the event. The silver medal of the meet was occupied by Lauren
Norberg of AUB, who stayed 2.56 seconds behind McKeehan and touched the finishing wall for the silver medal, with a timing of 2 minutes and 34.37 seconds.
The silver medallist qualified as the fifth fastest swimmer into the finals but her stupendous effort enabled her to grab the silver medal and out-touch her following competitor, Melanie Margalis, with a difference of 0.16 seconds. Margalis of Saint Petersburg
won the bronze medal of the four-lap event, by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 34.53 seconds.
Ka Rechsteiner of Deleware ST was the fourth best finisher of the final round, as she completed her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 34.97 seconds. She was followed by Gissel Kohoyda of CARD, who stayed prominently away from the fourth position holder and
posted a time of 2 minutes and 36.19 seconds for fifth position. Shannon O’ Malley of RAYS was 0.75 seconds behind Malley and earned sixth position, by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 36.94 seconds.
Julia Treible of SA was the seventh best swimmer of the breast-stroke event, as she clocked a time of 2 minutes and 37.96 seconds. The last spot was secured by Nicole Giamber of Mor Wolfpack, who settled on the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 38.16
seconds.
McKeehan expressed happiness over her comfortable win in the meet, while the podium finishers were handed with awards and accolades after the conclusion of the final session.
