Michelle Wie blossoms into seasoned Golfer
Finally on her way to emerging as what she was in her early teens, Michelle Wie thinks that she is very close to reaching her full potential. Finishing off with a wire-to-wire victory at St. Charles Country club in Winnipeg on Sunday, she really showed the Norwegian, Suzzan Petterson, what it takes to be the best. The win at the Canadian open was a truly life changing event for her. She had defeated Suzzan by a three shot lead. Petterson told the reporters that she’s (Wie) is a great ball striker and when she gets her game together, she is tough together. Well unlucky for you Suzzan, Michelle truly had her game bundled up for the LPGA tour.
Winning her second LPGA title also elevated Michelle Wie up to number seven in the World rankings. Hitting one bad shot, she didn’t even seem to get rattled, showing how much confidence and poise the twenty year old has. Her talent and agility are remarkable and she is truly deserving of the LPGA title.
Her first win was on the US circuit against Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico last November and Michelle was more than happy to carry her glory on to Canada. "It's been a long time since November. I haven't been playing as well as I wanted to the last couple of months, and this makes me more motivated for the rest of the season", Michelle said.
Michelle Wie turned pro at 15. At that time, the skillful Korean-American was under immense pressure due to multi-million dollar endorsement deals. In 2005, she joined the paid ranking as Golf’s wealthiest female and one of the most made women athletes in sport. Sadly, it took her four years after that to emerge as a leading champion. Her struggle wasn’t easy, facing criticism, going through injuries, and losing a few tournaments. Being in competition with Tiger Woods, she emerged as the most successful teenager in golf after securing a victory in her first tournament in 2003. Winning the US women’s amateur while being thirteen is spectacular.
Doing what parents do, Wie’s parents have always been on her side. The way she was managed, helped Wie emerge as the most organized figure in golf. She didn’t even need to win that much at that time and still got all the praise. We can all imagine what sort of treatment and respect she will get now that Michelle is on winning spree. Due to hard work and efforts, she obtained a Tour card in 2008 and then was chosen for the 2009 Solheim Cup and on her debut competition, Wie really stunned the whole world.
Being the youngest player on either side, she really got along with the whole team and showed a lot of cooperation. As the team won from a three and a half and almost four point leave, her participation really made a difference and eventually led to the 16-12 win in Sugar Grove, Illinois. U.S captain Beth Daniel said that Michelle can definitely play under pressure and during her tournament she did everything she could, even more than they asked of her.
After her Illinois experience, she was enthusiastic and determined more than ever. With all the passion instilled in her, she went on to record three top-four finishes during her next LPGA tours, including her remarkable win in Mexico.
Being a student at Stanford University along with managing a professional golf career can be a very hectic job. However, now Wie appears as she has everything under control. Her win at the Canadian Open truly shows her potential and the extent to which Michelle has developed herself. Michelle has gone through an intellectual transformation as now she looks like she is enjoying Golf on and off the course. The way the teen Michelle amazed the World as she broke out of her nutshell seems to be happening again. Now it really seems that Michelle Wie will certainly reach the expectations people had from her when she had started playing golf.
