Michelle Wie fails to pull off top-10 finish in Dubai
American Michelle Wie, who has been seeking to end her victory drought on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour since August 2010, put her skills to the test at the season-ending LET (Ladies European Tour) event.
Wie took part in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters 2012 with plenty of confidence, and given her months-long LPGA victory drought, her biggest aim was to walk away with the title.
The American star could not impress her fans, but shooting a 282 placed her inside the top 20 on the leaderboard. She finished tied for the 19th position along with Australian Sarah Kemp, Stacy Lee Bregman, English Trish Johnson and Florentyna
Parker.
Wie got off to a slow start to her campaign as she posted a 70 in the first round. She could have capitalised on the favourable weather conditions on the greens, but her putting looked awry.
She tried to improve her position in the second round but all her efforts could garner was an unimpressive 73. She carded three birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey.
The third round saw the American golfer move in the same pace, shooting a 70. However, she regained her momentum in the last round on Saturday as she carded a 69.
Since she missed plenty of chances in the first three rounds, it was impossible for Wie to find a place inside the top 10 on the leaderboard.
Wie has been a prominent player on the LPGA Tour since turning professional in 2005. She has not been able to win a title since her last victory at the CN Canadian Women’s Open in August 2010. She racked up her first LPGA title at the 2009 Lorena Ochoa Invitational
where she defeated American Paula Creamer by two strokes.
Shanshan Feng of China displayed a stellar performance at the season-ending LET battle in Dubai. Feng posted an overall 267 to seize a five-shot triumph against Dewi Claire Schreefel.
The Chinese star shot a massive 66 in the first round, making a solid start to her campaign. More importantly, she managed to maintain her lead till the final round on Saturday. The last round saw her post a 69 on the leaderboard.
