Michelle Wie heaps praise on Lydia Ko
American Michelle Wie may not have been able to surprise her fans since August 2010, when she won her last triumph at CN Canadian Women’s Open, but she still has a long list of admirers to boast about — and
amateur Lydia Ko is one of them.
Wie recently spoke to the media in Liverpool, where she answered a range of questions from her current performance that has seen her do anything but shine, to future goals. However, the American star had mostly
positive things to say about the rising LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) phenom.
Ko, who still plays as an amateur, rose to prominence after she became the youngest ever player to win an LPGA event. The Kiwis amateur crushed South Korean Inbee Park by three strokes at the CN Canadian Women’s
Open 2012, played at Vancouver, Canada, in late August.
Ko had expressed her admiration for Wie in one of interviews, saying she likes to follow the American star.
Wie has never see Ko in person, but she said in her interview at Liverpool that she would love to play with the young prodigy.
Wie, who has not been able to end her long victory drought since she last won the Canadian Women’s Open in August 2010, boasts a reputation of being more than just a golfer as she is also known for her trendy
outfits and fashion.
"People have high expectations, but they are the same expectations that you have on yourself,” Wie said of Ko whose fans now want her to keep winning. "I would just say play for yourself, don't play for anyone
else. It's your game, it's your life and it's your desire. Have fun and try your hardest -- it's really a game after all".
Speaking of her own performance in the current season, Wie said that she has been trying to end her victory drought, but she still has to go a long way before she regains her lost form.
“It's been a really rough year for me, but I definitely have a lot of positives," the LPGA titan said. "And it's going to be fun this week. A links golf course is a good way to shake things up with the wind
going 20 miles an hour".
