Michelle Wie off to unimpressive start at Hoylake
American Michelle Wie got off to an unimpressive start at the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 as she posted a 75 in the opening round.
Wie is looking to fix some fatal flaws in her game these days, as her performance has been below average in most of the recent tournaments.
The American star is waiting to tee off her second round, which was called off due to gusty winds on Friday.
Officials of the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 were forced to declare the second round null and void when the winds made it impossible to continue the tournament.
The second round will be played on Saturday and the third and fourth on Sunday.
Starting her second round on the 10th hole, Wie played only two holes before the match was suspended for the day.
Sharing her thoughts about the wind-marred day, the American golfer said that it was pretty hectic out there playing in winds blowing at a speed of twenty-five miles per hour.
"It's been a long day. When I arrived at the course at 5am it was raining sideways. I've never seen anything like it,” she said and added it was “fairly sheltered by the tents when we set off but by the time we got to the 12th it was clearly unplayable”.
Wie’s performance in the first round remained shaky right from the start. She made a solid start as she birdied the 10th and 11th hole. The par-4 12th hole proved a bit tricky for the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) phenom as she carded a bogey.
Experts said that the first-round performance has shown that Wie will likely have a hard time rebounding in the next three holes, as she could have made the most of calm winds on Thursday.
South Korean stars, who appear to be tearing their American and European rivals apart these days, have once again grabbed the limelight by seizing the several top positions on the leaderboard.
Haeji Kang and So Yeon Ryu, rising stars in the fearsome South Korean line-up, have been on fire since the start of the current season and there is little reason to believe the two struggling American stars can hamper the two LPGA titans.
