  1. Personally I think the media was trying so hard to create another Tiger Woods that they pushed her into the spotlight before she was ready to handle the pressure. In Tiger's case he won 3 U.S. Amateur tournaments that got him ready for the competition of professional golf. Michelle Wie is a very good golfer for somebody as young as she is, just not ready to play on the professional tour.

  2. she is so talked about cos she contended for majors and such a young age. she was then dubbed and the 'next big thing' in womens golf. All this extra pressure and injuries have not helped her progression but she is only 18 years old and has plenty of time to live up to her hype.

  3. i think the question should be why is a golf player making 12 million a year. there is absolutely no reason anyone should be making that much money by hitting a ball into a hole.

  4. a lot of it has to do professional sports announcers .let everybody believe she's the greatest thing there is .I believe he got into their heads the family .of course she's worth times the money because of endorsements .if she ever plays any good help pay off .she does not know how to win ,and I think sometimes because of her TV coverage and all talking she's above the game and the rules .

  5. I have no clue, she's not a great player, she's always on spondser invite which is not fair to most people. and it's not like she wins them. I guess the age. She's young so spondsers love her. But i hate her. i think paula palmer is the big thing in lpga

  6. She has had so much pressure from everyone that I think it was just too much. I think that Michelle needs to just start winning some lower level tournaments. That will get her the winning experience she needs. People say she has never won that much and therefore she doesn't know how to win. Tiger Woods on the otherhand dominated the junior tournaments and won countless tournaments. He gained valuable experience from all these wins and that really helped him when he entered the PGA.

  7. She debuted on the LPGA tour at such a young age, that's why she's famous.  ESPN gave her plenty of coverage, and people are always looking for the next phenom.

  8. Was a 6' phenom at age 13, driving the ball 300 yards and almost making the cut on the PGA (men's tour).

At age 16 turned pro and got ten million dollars from Nike.  Then the trouble began...

In her first tournament as a pro she was disqualified for taking an illegal drop.

A few tournaments later she was penalized for another rule violation.

After another poor performance she fired her caddy - seemingly blaming him for her inability to perform.

In a PGA event she quit because of "heat stroke" when she was playing terrible.  (But all the old geezers seemed to be able to gut it out)

Last year in an LPGA even she quit during the second round when it looked like she would not break 88 (which would disqualify her from the LPGA for the entire year).  She said she was quitting because her wrist hurt, but then was practicing two days later at the next LPGA course.

    Got DQ-ed again last week.

Has placed dead-last in several PGA and LPGA events.

Started school at Stanford last year and dropped out after one semester.

Her parents are known to be very overbearing and a menace on the golf course.

In short, she had a lot of potential when she was little, but too much money too fast and bad career choices by her parents seem to have destroyed her confidence and motivation.

Now she is just a freakshow stuck in a train wreck.  Ranked about #200 on the LPGA, hasn't won a tournament since she was 13, and has only won $4000 in 5 LPGA events this year.

(and regarding the poster who called her s**y - ick!  She is small on top, big hips, big belly, big thighs - and still growing.  She is going to be a "big" girl.  Mark my words 175-200lbs in 5 years.)

  9. She missed the cut at a PGA Tour event (men) by one stroke at the age of 13, and at that point was talking about not even playing the LPGA Tour; by that, playing full time on the PGA Tour against men.  Cue up hundreds of "can she?" stories, media interest, etc.

From that, millions in sponsorship dollars (Sony, Nike, etc.) ensued; she has yet to win a tournament, and last year was an unmitigated disaster for her with injury and a boatload of bad decisions.

She's been playing on sponsor exemptions (which I have no drama with; it's the same vehicle Tiger Woods used back in 1996 when he turned professional with no status on the PGA Tour; the difference is Woods parlayed his exemptions into two wins and status) as she has no status on any tour.

Since the events she get exemptions to see spikes in tv ratings, ticket sales, and other revenues, if you're a tournament director...it's something to contemplate (extending an invite).

She reminds me of a young tennis player; I keep thinking of Jennifer Capriati back in the early 1990's (relative to stardom, media attention, incompetent parenting, and (hopefully for her) a comeback to being competitive).

  10. she came on to the pga scene at 15 i think and played really well in her first tournament or two and got a spnsor exemption into a major event and pkayed well.  from there she was expected to be the next big thing.  she was allowed toplay in 2 pga events and failed miserably. she missed the cut by like 20 strokes and left after thursday in another.  she hasnt won anyhting on the lpga and has not even been a contendor in a while.  she was a brtight star that fizzled under the spotlight.  she may come back in a few years and be good, but know shes a young girl who played well a few times

  11. Man!! she's just like Kobe Bryant.  All the media attention and Commercials even before winning her first Pro Tournament.

Eventually she will get better and win her LPGA Tournament....

  12. She is so fine. She's the sexiest female ever.
