Michelle Wie regrets her behaviour in final round of HSBC Women's Champions
Michelle Wie said that she regrets her rude behaviour in the final round of the HSBC Women’s Champions.
Wie, who finished 59th in the $1.4 million event, faced trouble while making calculated putts.
She lost her temper when she could not judge her drive on the 17th hole. She reacted by throwing her club in anger.
Speaking to media after the tournament, Wie said that she was really sorry for what she did on the course. She said that she could not make sensible strokes and the 17th hole was the tipping point.
"It's unacceptable behaviour. Sometimes it's just really frustrating, and I was at that point where everything kind of boiled up," she said.
Wie could not perform according to her plans, as she lost many chances to make birdies and pars. She carded an overall 22-over 310, which proved demoralising for her.
The American star shot a 75 in the last round, which was enough to make a dent in her scorecard. Wie struggled on most of the holes, as she played in the comfortable winds at Tanah Merah Country Club.
She kicked off her first round in an unimpressive style and faltered on most of the holes. Although confident of her putting skills, Wie found it hard to keep her focus.
She ended up carding a 79, taking a toll on her position on the leaderboard.
The second round was just as bad, as she was uncomfortable with her strokes. Her score was 81 for the round, which hampered her advances.
The field set for the HSBC Women’s Champions was competitive, as Wie faced a tough resistance from her rivals. Angela Stanford, who won the event, was amazing throughout the final day.
Stanford strengthened her position on the leaderboard from the first round. She managed to grab a 2-shot lead against her rivals.
Stanford earned a whopping $210,000 by winning the tournament. Talking to the media after she hoisted the trophy, the American star said she was glad that her plan worked, helping her record her 5th triumph on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf
Association) Tour.
She went on to say that her nearest rival, Jenny Shin, also played well, but unfortunately she could not calculate her moves.
