Michelle Wie says Royal Liverpool is a "tough" course
American Michelle Wie has said that the Royal Liverpool Golf Club is a “very tough” course, but admitted that she enjoyed playing against her rivals at the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 held last week.
“The golf course is very tough. There's a lot of bunkers still. The bunkers aren't moving anywhere. The fairways aren't getting wider. It's a tough golf course. It's a really good championship golf course,
for sure,” Wie said while speaking to the media at the end of the second round.
Wie has been troubled about her slumping performance in the current season as she has recorded below-average finishes in most of the recent tournaments. However, the major battle at Royal Liverpool Golf Club
last week helped her gain some confidence.
“I had a lot of fun out there playing and I felt like I hit a lot of good shots. I'm excited that I have a really good chance of not waking up at 4.00 am tomorrow, so I'm quite excited about that, too”.
The American star displayed a good performance, shooting an overall 296 to tie for the 13th position on the leaderboard.
Wie could not make as good a start as her fans wanted because rough weather conditions made it difficult to stay focused on the greens and fairways. She scored a 75 in the opening round, but came into contention
with full force in the next two rounds.
The second round saw the LPGA titan pick up pace as she sank five birdies and three bogeys to score a 70. The second-day play was suspended due to windy conditions, however, it resume on Saturday.
Wie kicked off the round on Saturday with plenty of enthusiasm as she drained a birdie on the first hole. She then parred the next hole and faltered on the par-4 third, carding a bogey.
On the back nine, the 22-year-old played relatively better but was not free from errors. She birdied the 10th hole and then parred the next three holes in a row.
On the par-4 14th, Wie registered her second bogey but was quick to regain composure after she reeled off birdies on the 16th and 18th hole.
