Michelle Wie stands at the 59th position in the HSBC Women’s Champions
Michelle Wie was unable to deliver her usual game in the first three rounds of the HSBC Women’s Champions in Singapore.
The 22-year-old American professional golfer disappointed many field players and spectators by showing a mediocre performance.
She failed to stand among the top golfers on the leaderbaord and now she will have to struggle to make the cut.
After the completion of three rounds, she is standing at the 59th position. Wie scored a 19-over par and 235 strokes in total. This is the worst performance from her so far this year.
Wie started the tournament with a bogey on very first hole of the Tanah Merah Country Club, Garden Course in Singapore. She finished the day unimpressively by scoring seven bogeys.
Such a poor performance was never expected from her. She finished the first round on Thursday by scoring a 7-over 79.
The 72-par Singaporean course is not difficult to play but Wie apparently faced difficulties while scoring.
On Friday, the second round was played, and once again, Wie was unable to impress. She added more bogeys on the leaderboard and finished the round by 16-over par.
Wie is performing like an amateur. Apart from the bogeys, she also shot a double-bogey on the eight hole of the second round.
It was obvious that she will be unable to make the cut for the third round. However, thanks to poor performance from other players, she is eligible for the third round on Saturday.
At last, Wie was able to make some birdies, but again she carded five bogeys. Due to her 59th position, her chances to win at Singapore are slim.
The top-60 players are allowed to play the fourth round and Wie is among them. She made the cut but it is nearly impossible for her to be in the top 25 on the leaderboard.
Currently, there are three contenders for the leading position. Katie Futcher, Jenny Shin and Angela Stanford are tied at the first position.
They scored a 9-under 207 and competed well in the three rounds of the HSBC Women’s Champions.
The fourth and final round is to be played on Sunday, February 25, 2012. A tough battle is expected between three leaders. The player, who performs well and competes impressively tomorrow, will be the proud winner of the tournament.
