Michelle Wie to enjoy good crowd support in South Korea
American Michelle Wie is ready to face rivals at the upcoming LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 and she has said that she likes to play the tournament because of her Korean heritage.
Wie was born in America, but her parents migrated from South Korea in 1980’s — something the star golfer is clearly proud of.
Sharing her thoughts at the Incheon, South Korea, where the tournament is going to be held from October 19-21, Wie said that she is excited to be here and will try to impress the spectators.
Wie is believed to be a fluent Korean speaker, which reflects that she likes to associate herself with her parents’ background.
“I'm very proud of my Korean Heritage. I really feel that I'm proud to be Korean, and I'm back into Korea one year later, that's today. So I'm really glad to be here again in one year of time,
and I can find so many delicious foods that I can eat,” Wie said.
Observers said that the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) star has not been able to perform well since she racked up her last title at the CN Canadian Women’s Open in August 2010.
Observers also pointed out that the upcoming tournament will not be easy for Wie as the field is going to feature plenty of South Korean contenders who will likely receive a better crowd support
than their American and European counterparts.
Being winless for months took a serious toll on Wie’s game as she found it hard to fix some of the fatal flaws in her putting and swing. Now that the star golfer has put into practice a solid
training programme, she thinks she is better than before and fans will see a much different performance.
She admitted that finding her form has been a tough experience as it took a rigorous practice to fix flaws in her game, but she said that she will get back to her old form gradually.
“I kept working on my skill and my practice, and I'm kind of feeling that I'm improving little by little every game, so for this championship I would like to show what I can do best to my
Korean fans”.
