My uncle is giving me one of his old cars for free as a birthday gift, and I'm eligible to drive alone, (level 2). But can I drive it home without a license plate & car insurance?

  1. No you can't....  even if you just got it as a gift, it must be registered and you must have insurance.

I suggest your take a note from your uncle that indicates the vehicle is a gift, and the old registration... and get it registered before moving it.  I think to do this... you also have to have to show current Michigan insurance.

don't take the chance...  if you were to be in an accident while enroute, you would be held personally liable for the damages... that could be a whole lot of $$$.

  2. no u cant you could get pulled over...

  3. If he still has it plated and insured, you can drive it home as if it was borrowed.  If he doesn't have it plated and insured, you have to take care of that before taking it home, or have it towed.

Think about it, even if the law didn't require it be insured, who would pay for damages if you had an accident?
