Michigan Spartans’ Rucker could face jail time
Michigan State Spartans’ starting cornerback Chris L. Rucker could face jail time after he is said to have violated the terms of his parole.
The youngster was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, which violates the terms set out in his parole. The infraction has led his parole officer Matthew J. Brundage to suggest that he be given a 21-day jail sentence.
Rucker has until Wednesday 20 October to appear before an East Lansing court for his arraignment, at which point it will become clear whether or not he will face jail time.
Rucker was placed on parole last year after he plead guilty to assault and battery. Rucker was involved in an altercation on campus, which included several Michigan State teammates. Rucker was given probation for the infraction. The terms of his probation
stated that the youngster was not allowed to consume drugs or alcohol.
Spartans’ head coach Mark Dantonio said that the team had suspended the defensive back for at least one game for breaking team rules. The suspension is expected to be applied to the Spartans’ game on Saturday 16 October against the Illinois Illini. The suspension
has likely been instituted to keep Rucker out of the line-up until he appears in court.
The Spartans are having a superb year, currently sitting at the top of the Big Ten Conference with a 6-0 record. The club is coming off their biggest game of the year, winning 34-17 over rival Michigan. The Spartans are not likely to miss Rucker a great
deal when they take on the Illini on Saturday 16 October at home in Spartan Stadium. Illinois is sitting at 3-2 with a 1-1 record against Big Ten opponents.
Rucker has started all six games for Michigan State this season, and recorded an interception in the club’s win over Michigan.
