Michigan State Spartans’ Chris Rucker to serve time
Michigan State Spartans cornerback Chris L. Rucker will face jail time for violating the terms of his probation, after being arrested for drunk driving.
Rucker was caught driving while under the influence on 11 October, but managed to have the charge reduced to reckless driving. Rucker was arrested while on probation for a misdemeanour assault, which occurred in November 2009 in a residence hall. Several
Michigan State football players were reported to have been involved in the assault.
Rucker was sentenced to eight days in jail by Judge David Jordan, after the youngster was able to come to a plea agreement. In addition to the eight days, Rucker will also have to endure two more years of probation.
Rucker’s probation officer suggested that the cornerback get a 21-day sentence. However, after coming to a plea agreement, it was reduced to 10 days. Rucker was then given a one day credit for the time he spent in jail on the night of the arrest. Moreover,
the youngster will be serving his time at Ingham County Jail where they receive one day credit for each week served, thus bumping his punishment down to eight days.
The Spartans’ suspended Rucker on the day he was arrested and have not addressed his eligibility since. It is expected that Michigan States’ head coach Mark Dantonio will make a final decision regarding the defensive back on Tuesday 26 October.
So far this season, it is clear the team has not missed the youngster, as they have gone a tremendous 8-0 to start the season and sit seventh overall in the Bowl Championship Standings.
The Spartans have one more game against a ranked side this season and four more against conference opponents. The squad will hope to build on their 4-0 conference record, which sees them at the top of the Big Ten.
