Michigan State Spartans make short work of Tennesse Tech Golden Eagles
The Michigan State Spartans easily defeated the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on Sunday 28 November. The number two ranked Michigan State dominated the 0-3 Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles by a score of 73-55. This was the first meeting between the two schools
since 28 December 2005. The Spartans also won that game 80-63.
The Spartans were knocked out of the Maui invitational last week by NCAA lead scorer Kemba Walker and his University of Connecticut Huskies. They were forced to settle for third place after beating the 13th ranked Washington Huskies.
Sunday’s game was more about pride than winning for the Spartans. After the disappointing loss, the Spartans were looking to get back on their feet. “We had a tough loss in a game we lead down the stretch and thought we could have won,” said Spartans head
coach Tom Izzo of the upset loss to UConn.
Golden Eagles coach Mike Sutton saw the upcoming game against Michigan State as a good learning experience for his squad. “Playing in East Lansing is a great opportunity for our guys,” said Sutton on Washington’s official website. “Going against a team that
has a chance to go very deep in the NCAA tournament gives us a chance to learn from some of the best players in college basketball right now.”
Going into Sunday’s game there were question marks surrounding point guard Kalin Lucas who left Wednesday's game momentarily after Washington’s Justin Holiday fell on his left knee in a fight for a loose ball.
“My knee’s fine,” said Lucas, who had a career-high 29 points in the match-up against Washington. “I really don’t know what I did to it. It kind of hurt a little bit, the doctors looked at it, but I’m fine.”
Lucas played well in the game against Tennessee, registering 15 points in the match-up. The game’s star, however, was Durrell Summers who scored 21 points on the night. Summers was good for eight out of 11 field goal attempts, for a success rate of 72.7
percent. He was also three-for-three in three pointers.
Stand-outs for the Tennessee Tech were forward Kevin Murphy and guard Zach Bailey. The pair had put up 11 points in the game. Bailey added another five rebounds.

The Spartans are now looking ahead to their match-up against the Duke University Blue Devils, the consensus number one team in the NCAA. The two basketball power-houses will face off at 7:30. Visiting Michigan State hopes to improve their record to 6-1, while
Duke tries to maintain their perfect record.
