Michigan Wolverines’ Dernard Robinson cleared for week 11
Michigan Wolverines quarterback Dernard Robinson has been cleared to play in the club’s week 11 game against the Purdue Boilermakers, on Saturday 13 November.
Robinson was forced out of the squad’s triple overtime win over the Illinois Illini on 6 November with dizziness and headaches. Nevertheless, Robinson was back at practice with the team on Monday 8 November and head coach Rich Rodriguez stated that the youngster
was okay to play against Purdue.
Robinson is a key cog in the club’s offence and has had a tremendous 2010 season. The youngster is fantastic with his feet and currently leads the nation, averaging 149.9 yards per game on the ground. Robinson’s propensity to run the ball has led to an injury
nearly every week. The sophomore’s status seems to constantly be in question.
The Wolverines have been living off Robinson’s offensive abilities, as the club ranks ninth in the country, averaging 273.4 yards per game rushing, while managing the nation’s 28th best passing game, averaging 262.4 yards per game. The rushing
game coupled with a solid passing game has given Michigan the nation’s 12th best offence.
Despite the success the club has had on the offensive side of the ball, Rodriguez has come under heavy criticism for the team’s poor performance on the defensive. The Wolverines’ struggles have led to the team being ranked 104th in the country,
allowing an average of 33.9 points per game.
In addition, the squad’s win over Illinois ended a three-game losing streak against conference opponents, which dropped the club out the BCS standings.
Although the Wolverines get Robinson back they will have to go without running back Teric Jones, who will be out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL in week 10.
So far this season, Robinson has managed 1,814 yards and 13 touchdowns in the air, while also tallying over 100 yards on the ground seven times.
