Michigan Wolverines quarterback Denard Robinson maintains lead In Heisman Trophy Rankings
Michigan Wolverine sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson preserved his lead in the Heisman trophy ranking with another superb performance – despite leaving the game early – against the Bowling Green Falcons
last week, a major sport media outfit announced Tuesday.
Robinson, the nation’s leading rusher, regained his lead in week five of ESPN’s Heisman Trophy Watch, just ahead of Boise State’s Kellen Moore, Alabama’s Mark Ingram, Ohio State’s Terrelle Pryor, and Stanford’s
Andrew Luck.
The 20-year-old Robinson was limited to less than a quarter of the game against the Falcons after absorbing a hard hit from Falcons freshman Ryland Ward.
However, prior to the hit, Robinson already established a great start in the game, as he completed four-of-four passes for 129 yards and made two rushing TDs to blow the match wide open in the first period
of Saturday’s 65-21 victory over the Falcons.
With that kind of performance, many college football followers dubbed Robinson as the next Michael Vick or Vince Young due to his ability to his double-threat ability.
In his first four games, the Wolverine signal-caller completed 53-of-76 (71.2 percent) for 671 yards, four TD passes, and one interception. He rushed a nation’s high 688 yards on 79 carries and six rushing
TDs.
Robinson’s 162.01 quarterback rating was by far the one of the nation’s best after five weeks of the regular-season.
Former Michigan and NFL quarterback Brian Griese even compared his passing game to New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, who completed 70.1 percent of his passes to lead his team to a Super Bowl title.
Still, the season is young for Robinson to be a shoo-in Heisman Trophy winner. Football followers still doubt his durability going deep into season and his knack to lead Michigan over strong competitors
in the Big Ten.
Robinson, who’s expected to recover from the minor injury, will next face the Indiana Hoosiers at the Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana.
Indiana also possesses a vulnerable defense, and again, everybody expects Robinson to come up with another “shake-and-bake” game this week.
