Michigan Wolverines rout Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions 63-50 - NCAA Basketball
Just hours ago, Michigan Wolverines gave their worst performance of the season, committing 19 turnovers in a single game. However, they still managed to end victorious.
Wolverines dominated the game right from the very beginning and had turned the game completely to their side midway through the first frame by acquiring a 24 point lead 32-8. In the second half, they were sloppy to say the least,
but the first half lead always kept them ahead of Arkansas- Pine Bluff Golden Lions.
Evan Smotrycz paced the Wolverines with 16 points on an accurate 5 for 5 from the charity stripe and 3 for 4 from the downtown. Trey Burke was also impressive with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists, while Matt Vogrich, who came
off the bench late, added 11 points.
Lazabian Jackson was the most outstanding player of the night and led the Lions with 23 points on a phenomenal 6 for 11 from the three-point range. Unfortunately, he was only supported by Savalace Townsend, who had 15 points.
Townsend was disappointed with how his team performed tonight. He added
"Coach started reading the stats to us, and we just looked at each other. We knew it was bad, but those were some ugly numbers. I have no idea what happened -- we don't play like that. All we wanted to do in the second half was
make some kind of run and keep the game from getting completely ridiculous."
The only time, Lions were in the game was in the first five minutes, when the scores were 8-6 in the favour of Wolverines.
After that, the Wolverines reeled off a brilliant game deciding 24-2 run in the next few minutes to stun the Lions. Despite a gallant effort by Lazabian from the other end, Wolverines managed to maintain the 20 plus lead and finished
the frame ahead by 37-17.
The nightmare continued for Lions in the second frame as 8 minutes into the half, they found themselves behind by 49-24. The fate of the game was decided there.
The clock kept ticking and Lions just had no answers to the onslaught by Wolverines. The scores reached 60-36 with six minutes remaining and in their grasp; the Warriors went on a turnover spree that allowed Lions to finish the
game with a 14-3 run. That however only lessened the humiliation.
