Michigan beats Indiana West by 3-1 at Sports Fest: Volleyball update
The Michigan girls’ volleyball team was able to hand out a defeat to Indiana West on Monday, June 13. The match was part of the Sports Fest that was being held at Bethel College.
The match between Indiana West and Michigan took four long and thrilling sets to conclude. By the time the night was out, Michigan was celebrating their well earned win over Indiana West which they accomplished by producing the following final scores: 25-19,
15-25, 25-19 and 25-21.
The first set of the game was fairly easy for Michigan as Indiana West did not give much of a challenge. Michigan was able to outperform their rivals in almost every aspect of the game. However, Indiana West was able to bounce back in the second set by winning
the set from Michigan quite decisively. But the second was the only set in which Indiana West had a moment of glory as the next two sets were bagged by the Michigan girls.
The Indiana West coach, Leslie-Ann Bloss, made the following comments in appreciation of
Sports Fest: "I loved this. I thought it was great. I thought all the girls had a good time. It was a chance for some of them to play for maybe the last time because they're not going to go on to play in college."
The start of the first set of the game saw both the teams lock horns with each other in a struggle for dominance. Neither Michigan nor Indiana West was able to keep the lead for long. However, during the later stages of the opening set, Michigan was able
to put on a spurt of speed by making a 7-3 run that played a key role in the first set win that Michigan was able to achieve at 25-19.
Having lost the initial set of the game, propelled Indiana West to come out strong in the second set. Michigan was hard put to compete with the rejuvenated Indiana West team which was able to take the lead at 8-7. Once they had the lead, Indiana West did
not relinquish their advantage and marched on all the way to a second set victory at 25-15.
Losing the second set did not sit well with Michigan who remained strong in the third set of the match and at no point were at a trailing position and a win at 25-19 came in comfortably. The fourth set saw a bit of fireworks go off between the two teams
but Michigan prevailed by securing the final set at 25-21.
Next in line for the Michigan team is a match against Indiana East that is scheduled to be played on Thursday evening. The contest between the two teams is part of the volleyball championship at Sports Fest.
