Why does booze cost about half the price at the casinos in northern Mich. ? Being owed by native tribes can't be a factor, because some of the southern Mich. casinos are run by them.

  1. Detroit has a much higher tax base for the casino operations, this is reflected in the pricing.

Northern Michigan Casinos are pretty notorious for their greed. They maintain lower slot paybacks and use rules at the table games that are much more favorable to the house then to the player, when these items are compared to the Detroit Casino operations. So they can afford to sell lower priced drinks, and hopefully the players will play more as the drinks flow. After all, Las Vegas has used free drinks for years to stimulate the gambling action.

Also, I suspect the booze prices are also based on what the traffic will pay, and up north prices for drinks are just plain lower across the board at almost all the bars. Even the hotels, lol.
