  1. --- This is from the Michigan State Police Site:

QUESTION:  Is it illegal to have a knife with a blade over 3 inches in my possession?

    ANSWER: NO

Michigan law ( MCL 750.226 ) specifies that a person, with intent to use the knife unlawfully against another, shall not go armed with a knife having a blade over 3 inches in length.

QUESTION:  I recently purchased a double-edged survival knife. Does Michigan law allow me to carry this in my vehicle?

    ANSWER:

MCL 750.227    No. A dagger, dirk, stiletto, or double-edged non-folding stabbing instrument of any length, or any other dangerous weapon, except a hunting knife adapted and carried as such, cannot be carried concealed on or about a person, or whether concealed or otherwise in any vehicle operated or occupied by the person, except in their own home, place of business or on other land possessed by the person.

--- Michigan has some of the tightest knife and gunlaws in the USA, read that as some of the most restrictive weapons lasw in the USA. In reading the statute they have I would say your throwing knives are illegal as they are double edged and not specifically designed for hunting.

--- Your question about having them on your own property I can't answer. I think you will have to call an attorney to get that answered . I suggest that because I don't want to say something that might get you busted. Most lawyers won't charge you for a simple question like that and if they do it shouldn't be more than $20. If it is go elsewhere.

--- I have placed a site link/url that has the knife laws for all 50 states so you can read the statute your self. SEE [b] in the source box.

--- I know the US supreme court decided that people can go armed with a concealed pistol IN their own home and that may also include on their own property though you would have to confirm that with a lawyer again. If it applies to a pistol then it should apply to a knife, but Michigan's laws are a bit weird to say the least.

--- Again, your best and safest bet is to call a criminal attorney and ask them. If you are young they should answer it for free. Often good attorneys will answer simple questions that keep people out of trouble for nothing. Note I said GOOD attorneys.

--- I hope this helps you out.

  2. The law applies only to carrying one around.  Private property does not count.  Otherwise, nobody would be able to own kitchen knives, saws or hedge clippers.
