Michihiro Omigawa set to face Yuri Alcantara in Rio de Janeiro at UFC 142 – UFC/MMA News
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has announced a bout for UFC 142. Two fighters will come with their hands full when UFC 142 is held in Brazil next year. The 35-year old Michihiro Omigawa will face Yuri Alcantara. The Brazilian
mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Alcantara will be the fan favourite against the Japanese MMA fighter, Omigawa, when the event takes place on January 14, 2012. Omigawa will be entering the UFC octagon ring with two consecutive defeats under his belt.
He would be looking at UFC 142 as a fight that can make his career stable, only if he wins the bout. On the other hand, Alcantara, nicknamed Marajo, will be coming to Rio de Janeiro with twelve straight wins. His motivation would
be at its peak, as he would face his Brazilian opponent and hundreds of Brazilian fans, who would certainly be chanting against the Japanese fighter.
Omigawa has been on a roller coaster ride in his career for he has been on a winning and losing trend in his career. He did win five consecutive wins in his MMA career but he also faced straight loses. In 2011 he lost to Chad Mendes
at UFC 126 in February 2011 and then to Darren Elkins at UFC 131 in June 2011. With two straight loses, he did get a win at UFC 138 over Jason Young in November 2011. This win was something he needed for revive his career and he succeeded. His other test is
yet to come when he faces Alcantara in UFC 142.
Winning the inaugural Jungle Lightweight Championship in September 2010 at Jungle Fight 22 against Manuelo Morales, Alcantara has also fought in World Extreme Cagefighting’s WEC 53. If Omigawa’s recent win at UFC 138 would give
him the boost he needs for his fight in Brazil, then Alcantara’s consecutive winning streak would be the motivational factor for the Japanese MMA fighter and an intimidating one for Alcantara.
For the Brazilian, losing the bout in his hometown would be an insult beyond measure while the Japanese would have his eyes locked on his opponent for an early knock out. The UFC also reported that the winner of this featherweight
bout would get an opportunity to meet the champion of the same title division in 2012.
