Mick Channon set to try luck with Ollie Olga in Qipco 1,000 Guineas Stakes
Trainer Mick Channon is looking to take his opponents by surprise in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas Stakes (The 200th Running) (British Champions Series) (Group 1) (Fillies) at Newmarket in England on Sunday, May 5, 2013.
Although there are some decent challengers lined up for action in that race, Channon has decided to try his luck with forgotten filly Ollie Olga, who is extremely talented and has made her team proud on several occasions before.
The three-year-old runner started off her career in 2012 and was impressive straight away in her very first outing. She was not rated as the favourite to succeed in that event, but outperformed her rivals comfortably in the end. No one was able to challenger
her speed in the end, which helped her get the attention of the punters and bookies in the future competitions.
In her very next race, the American filly was once again sent out against some better runners, who were expected to dominate her from the start until the end. However, she refused to give up and fought hard from the word go. After a thrilling battle with
Rocky Ground, she managed to land successful by a head distance.
Despite her back to back victories, she was not given the best odds in her third race too, but that did not hurt her spirit. She once again came out with a spectacular run and completed a hat-trick, which made her team proud in the end.
However, she failed to carry on her winning streak and ended up right at the bottom of the table in her fourth race. Since then, she has not appeared in any other event and will be making her debut of the 2013 season.
Channon, who won last year's Irish 1,000 Guineas with Samitar said: “Let her stay in that category. I'm pleased with her, she's great and we decided to go straight there rather than run in a trial. She was in season when she was beaten in the Fillies' Mile
and that is an ongoing thing with her. We're hoping it doesn't strike her again.”
He added, “That's her only issue, getting everything right. She's very well in herself and if everything is alright she will turn up on Sunday.”
