Mick Fanning of Australia wins vital heat at the 2011 Billabong Rio Pro – Surfing news
Mick Fanning of Australia won the fourth heat of the day in hazardous weather conditions with a sterling score of 15.07 at the 2011 Billabong Rio Pro in Brazil on Wednesday.
“It was tricky trying to find the right one out there, but I watched the heat before and noticed that guys that were doing turns back-to-back were getting scores, so I tried to concentrate on that. They weren’t the biggest waves, but they just allowed three
turns straight away,” said Fanning.
Most importantly, he has advanced through to the third round of the Billabong Rio Pro at Rio de Janeiro wherein he will be up against the toughest surfers of the USA and Brazil.
He said, “It’s really good to skip as many rounds as possible, especially here in Brazil where it can be really unpredictable. I’m stoked to get through Round 1 and I’ll go back and assess what’s going on and hopefully keep going.”
Mick Fanning is best known for his impeccable speed and natural stance. His most favourite manoeuvres are the hacks and tubes which are considered to be one of the most intriguing styles in competitive surfing today.
Most fabulously, he is the double ASP world champion. He secured these victories in the ASP World Tours in 2007 and 2009. Besides, he is the six-time Australian Male Surfer of the Year at various occasions from 2002 – 2011.
