Mick McCarthy claims Liverpool’s first goal against Wolves should have been disallowed – EPL News
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 manager Mick McCarthy has come out bemoaning the Reds’ first goal.
He believes that Liverpool’s first goal should not have been given due to a foul in the build-up. However, the Wolves boss expressed his satisfaction over his team’s performance despite the loss.
The Molinuex-based outfit slumped to their third consecutive defeat in the Premier League at the hands of Liverpool last weekend.
McCarthy’s men conceded two goals in the first half before substitute Steven Fletcher got one back for the visitors. However, the Wolves failed to find an equaliser despite their numerous efforts.
The manager has stated that he is satisfied with his side’s start to the game at Anfield and has stated that his players were unfortunate to concede two goals in the first 45 minutes.
However, the Wolves manager also highlighted that the Reds’ first goal should not have been allowed. Charlie Adam opened the scoring after his long range effort deflected off skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roger-Johnson-c31524 before finding the net.
The Wanderers boss has claimed that Carroll fouled the Wolves captain even before Adam took the shot. McCarthy has asserted that the referee should have awarded his side a free-kick instead.
The English gaffer told the reporters, “I thought we started OK in the first 10 minutes but Roger Johnson was fouled before the first goal. Carroll barged into him and Johnson was still getting into position when he scored the own goal.”
Luis Suarez doubled Liverpool’s advantage twenty-seven minutes after the first goal. The Uruguayan beat the offside trap to clinch the lobbed pass from Jose Enrique before finding the net from close range.
McCarthy has blamed his defence’s lack of concentration in the build-up to the second goal and added, "For their second goal it was a case that we tried to play offside and didn't do it.”
However, the Wolves boss is impressed with his side’s overall performance against Liverpool and has praised his team’s effort to bounce back from a humiliating 3-0 loss to QPR at home.
“I expected an improvement on last week's performance. We don't have many games like the one against QPR - my teams don't usually play like that. We were a far better team in the second half and that's the level of performance I would expect from us,” Mick
McCarthy concluded.
Following their defeat against Liverpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers are placed 12th in the league standings with seven points from six matches.
