Mick McCarthy insists Ian Holloway won't resign
Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Mick McCarthy has stated that he believes Ian Holloway would be “mad” to quit the Tangerines, as he battles with the FA over punishment for fielding a supposedly
weekend team against Aston Villa last week.
McCarthy, who went through a similar state of affairs last season when making wholesale changes to his side when they travelled to Old Trafford, believes Holloway will be punished for
his actions, but that he won’t follow through on his resignation pledge.
McCarthy told the Wolves official website, “Would I want to see Olly [Holloway] quit? Would I heck? I wouldn't want to see him quit, I think he'd be mad. He's earned the right to be in
the Premier League and he's brought something to it. His team have graced it so far because they've been great.”
The Irishman does think the Premier League should be consistent with their punishments though. “The Premier League will 'do' him, I'm convinced of that. If they don't, then what was all
that I went through last season?”
McCarthy certainly has a point when suggesting that if he was punished for the transgression, then Holloway should also receive punishment (for the same thing). But every manager in the
Premier League is of the same opinion-that managers should be allowed to choose whoever they want, as they are acting in the best interests of their team.
The Premier League shouldn’t be allowed to determine who or what is their strongest line-up for any given game. Holloway has passionately defended his right to change his line-up and points
to his side’s outstanding display in the game in question – a last gasp 3-2 defeat at Aston Villa. Unfortunately, this episode continues to overshadow Blackpool’s excellent start in the Premier League.
