http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 coaching job – Cricket News Update
The director of cricket at Nottinghamshire, Mick Newell, has withdrawn his name from the list of coaches being considered by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to be Stuart Law’s successor.
The 47-year-old decided to stay with his family instead of coaching the Bangladesh national team. Newell felt honoured to be shortlisted for such a prestigious position; however, the head coach of Nottinghamshire held that his
family needs him more at this point in time.
During an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Newell said, “It is hugely flattering to be linked to such a job and, in many ways; it is a very attractive opportunity. It is a role that would be of huge interest at the right time
but, due to the age of my children, I have notified the BCB that I am not available for this role.”
Newell has two 8-year-old twins, and the former professional cricketer believes that they require his attention.
Apart from being with his family, Newell also felt that he has some obligations with Nottinghamshire and would have to think twice before leaving the club that he has trained with for the past ten years, during which the club won
the County Championship twice in 2005 and 2010.
“The other thing was that I knew that if I took the job, I would probably never coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 again. I've worked for the club for 30 years and I've been coaching there for 10 years. It doesn't get much better than working
for Nottinghamshire and I would have to think very carefully before leaving,” Newell said.
The 47-year-old hoped that this decision of his does not rule him out from any future opportunities of leading a national side. Newell termed coaching England’s national team as his ultimate goal for the future.
Now that Newell is out of contention, , this leaves http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kepler-Christoffel-Wessels-c71006 to fight for the vacant spot left by the departure of Law, who stepped down from his post after the Asia Cup 2012
to pursue a coaching job at Australia's Centre of Excellence.
