The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international will play for the Corsican club after the winter break and while talking to reporters, spoke about the reasons that led him to join Bastia
The arrival of Mickael Landreau to Ligue 1 side, SC Bastia on a six-month loan deal sends out a big signal of intent from the Corsican club. Mired in relegation troubles, I Turchini were in dire need of an experienced hand in their defence and found exactly
that when they signed the France international as a free agent.
Much to the surprise of many, the 33-year-old chose to terminate his contract with LOSC Lille following his issues with sporting director Frederic Paquet and coach Rudi Garcia. Despite such a sudden and unceremonious Au Revoir, Landreau says that he will
never forget the time he spent with Lille as it was an exceptional one to say the least.
Now, having turned the page, the Frenchman is fully concentrating on the task at hand at Bastia. Many eyebrows were raised when the experienced shot-stopper signed for Bastia but Landreau says that although the environment and French is different in Bastia,
he was welcomed by the club’s coach and president who he says, share his philosophy about the game.
“The project, the environment and the speech are different. This is what I liked, the interaction with the coach and the president. There was confidence, the desire to share and to have fun on the field.”
After playing for titles and European places, Landreau says that he is really happy to have become a part of a challenging sporting project.
Talking about the reasons that led him to stay in France and sign for the Corsican club, Landreau explained that there were three reasons that prompted him to sign for the residents of Stade Armand Cesari.
“There are three reasons. I prefer the ground and I wanted to play. Number 2, I wanted to beat the record of Jean-Luc Ettori, that’s a goal but it will not happen this season, even in the best case. Number three, coach Didier Descahmps wanted me to play
on the field on January 1 in a starting position. Bastia allowed me to complete these three objectives. It is an emotional choice.”
Landreau then went on to reveal that Bastia wanted to give him a contract of longer duration but he chose to have a short-term deal as it will allow him to take things step by step. At the age of 33, many people feel that Landreau’s career is coming to an
end.
However, the France international says that he has no plans about hanging his gloves in 2014.
