The 33-year-old was recalled to the international fold by the French coach last month following an absence of four years, and the player has revealed that he never thought he would ever play for Les Bleus again.
The experienced shot-stopper, who made his international debut in 2011, has been selected in France’s squad for the upcoming games against Japan and Spain.
And the goalkeeper has expressed his surprise at his return to the international stage. While talking to reporters, the former Paris Saint-Germain player stated that it is strange to be back in Les Bleus colours after so many years and he wasn't expecting
all that.
"It was strange to be back on the road to Clairefontaine in September, but I found my way easily," the former Nantes player told reporters.
The 33-year-old added that he feels honoured to be a part of the national side and being part of the squad delights him.
"Honestly, I didn't think that I would be called up to come to Clairefontaine as a player with the national side. Being a part of this squad is a source of great pleasure for me."
Mickael Landreau is currently France’s third-choice goalkeeper behind http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steve-Mandanda-c34177, but the Lille player is not complaining about that. The player stated that it’s different being with the national side and not playing regularly, but added
that he is comfortable with his role in the team.
"It's a different role to the one at my club, but I've already played it with the national team."

"Some people talk about me being the replacement of the back-up 'keeper. I'm simply here for Hugo and Steve.”
