Veteran forward reportedly has interest from three NBA teams, plus an international offer on the table...
As the NBA regular season approaches and with training camp only a few weeks away, teams are putting the final touches on their roster and many of the veterans in the league that were, till now, without contracts for next season
have started receiving interests from teams.
Matt Barnes got signed by the Los Angeles Clippers and Josh Harrellson was acquired by the Miami Heat. And now news is coming in that Mickael Pietrus, the 9 year veteran forward who played good minutes last season for the Boston
Celtics, is receiving interest from the NBA as well as international leagues.
Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com has reported that Pietrus has three NBA teams looking to sign him, plus the option of playing the coming season overseas.
“According to a source close to the situation, “Suddenly, three NBA teams have shown major interest in the nine-year veteran and two of the teams seem very motivated to get a deal done. Mickael also has a strong overseas option
on the table that contains an escape clause. He’s considering all of his options, but he prefers to play in the NBA and he’s feeling 10 times better than last season. He’s healthy for the first time in two years.””, reported Haynes.
Pietrus had said before that he is not willing to play for the veteran’s minimum, but the new CBA has teams being able to offer only that to veterans looking for a contract. In such a situation, the only way to land a better deal
is to generate competition and demand.
The player was critical to the Celtics last season, playing 21.9 minutes per game. However, he only managed 6.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, and was unable to make an impact in the team. He had a his knee scoped during the
summer and is currently recovering, but is well on schedule to be available to play training camp and the ensuing NBA season, if he is able to land a deal.
If he is able to land a better than the veteran’s minimum deal, Pietrus should thank his agent because not many veterans have been able to get a good deal this summer.
