Australia’s coach, Mickey Arthur, is disappointed with David Hussey’s recent performances in the limited-over sport but hinted that the hard-hitting middle-order batsman may have an important role to play in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012, which starts today in
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Hussey is considered to be one of the world’s finest T20 players, with 4670 runs (most for any batsman in the globe). On top of that, the right-handed batsman has played 189 T20 fixtures, more than any other player apart from South Africa’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JA-Morkel-c1613.
The all-rounder however, looked off-colour in the recently concluded tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE), managing just 59 runs in the four One Day Internationals (ODIs) and going wicket-less with the ball. Hussey was dismissed cheaply in the two T20s he
played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, which resulted in his exclusion from the playing XI for the World T20 warm-up games.
Arthur had great expectations from the 35-year-old cricketer from Victoria but admitted that the all-rounder’s loss of form has disturbed the team’s strategy ahead of such an important tournament.
"We wanted to get everything structured and stable before we went into the tournament," he said. "Since I've come in [as coach] he's played every game, bar the start of this tournament [and the last match in Dubai].”
The Perth-born cricketer has so far represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 64 ODIs and 38 T20s, having scored a hundred and 16 half-centuries at the global arena. Apart from being a potentially destructive batsman, Hussey is more than handy with the ball.
Arthur expressed that the middle-order batsman’s role in the team was to finish matches but he has failed to do that regularly in the recent past. The Aussie coach however, is still optimistic about the experienced cricketer and thinks that Hussey has the
ability to turn the tables in the mega event.
"We wanted to get a little bit more from Dave and we wanted Dave to finish games a little bit more than what he has. He's aware of that. We've had some good honest chats about it. Dave is still very clearly in the mix and down the line could play a really
big role in this tournament," feels Arthur.
