Mickey and Friends Arount the tree train set does...

We have inserted the fresh new 4 C batteries in the compartment correctly and plugged in the power cord to engine and nothing is happening. We even returned the set for a new one thinking the first set was defective. We tried different batteries and still no power. Should we return this set for a third set?
