Micky Quinn wants Newcastle United to sign a prolific striker – EPL News
Legendary Newcastle United attacker, Mick Quinn, has urged the Toons’ chairman, Mike Ashley, to spend big to sign a free-scoring striker. But, Quinn doubts that Newcastle United chairman will provide cash for a striker.
Quinn, who scored 59 goals during his three-year Newcastle United career, has urged the Toons to find a perfect replacement of Andy Carroll, who joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 for a record transfer fee of £35 million in January 2011.
Newcastle United have already signed the former West Ham United striker, Demba Ba, to increase the depth and the quality of their attacking line-up. However, Quinn believes that Newcastle United lack a prolific striker who can wear the iconic number nine
shirt of the Toons.
The number nine shirt is famous at Newcastle United as it was worn by Premier League’s all-time top scorer, Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand and Andy Cole. The shirt is vacant since the departure of Andy Carroll and Quinn believes that Newcastle’s current attackers
do not have the quality to wear number nine.
He said, “There's no iconic number nine there in my opinion. From what I've seen, there's no one ready to take on the shirt.”
Quinn reckons that the Toons’ experienced striker, Shola Ameobi, can wear the iconic number nine shirt but believes that Newcastle United should sign a prolific striker, who can help them survive the Barclays Premier League.
“Maybe they can go with Shola Ameobi or one other, but they really need to sign at least one more striker, a number nine, to keep them in the league and help them progress,” added Quin.
However, the former Newcastle United attacker believes that the Toons chairman is unlikely to splash cash on a striker.
“But from what I have seen of Mike Ashley, I doubt whether they will get all the money. I always think there's something around the corner with him. I'm suspicious of his intentions,” reiterated Quinn.
