Micky Robbie set for the Produce double
Micky Robbie will be looking to complete a big-race double this evening in the Nottingham Produce Stakes Final.
The winner of the Swindon Produce, if successful tonight, would become the first greyhound to complete the Produce race double since 1996 when Batsford Blade strode to victory and the markets suggest he has a massive chance.
Pat Rosney’s dog has gone unbeaten in the competition to date, winning by an aggregate margin of 15 lengths, and by the look of his vastly improved performances since his Derby exit in May could be a dog that is getting better with every run. He has landed the red jacket this evening which looks to have given his chances a further boost. Being the only railer in the field means the speedy hound, if breaking with the same consistency as the previous rounds, should get a clear passage to the first bend as Saint Jack who is drawn in trap two, will head for the middle of the track and maybe cause interference with the rest of the other runners’.
Micky Robbie should be leading at the first bend, but if Mill Jaguar is within touching distance with 100 yards to go, the Charlie Lister runner may just out-stay the selection. But the trap five draw doesn’t bode well for Jaguar, he’s only won once from the orange jacket in seven starts.
It is a valid argument to suggest that the undercard for tonight’s final is one of the classiest of the season so far. Spectators will get to see some real stars including Derby champion Bandicoot Tipoki - one of the favourites for next year’s Derby Droopys Oscar and two of the best sprinters currently in training, Rotar Wing and Jimmy Lollie.
But from a punting perspective, there could be value in opposing the headline acts tonight, as some progressive sorts look to make the step up into Open Race glory.
Windy Millar can get the better of Bandicoot Tipoki in the Ultimate Print Ltd Gents Standard Trophy. This will be the Derby champ’s first competitive run for two months and the selection, on his last race before retirement, can go out with a bang. Droopys Oscar may also not quite be race-fit yet following a two-month layoff, and Tonbrie Ji can use his lightning pace from the boxes to turn-over the short priced favourite in the Emily Wood Memorial 480m Puppy Trophy.
