Micro-managers: how do you deal with them before I PULL HER HAIR?!?

ARGH!

She's really nice - sweet and caring and everything... Except she gets to MY SKIN!

She's so neurotic and gets stressed too easily and she's really nosey.

I'm a good worker - she even says so herself and my other co-workers. But she is just too daaaaammmmnnnn nosey! Every 5 minutes "What's that?" Ugh, I'm doing work, why do you need to know everything I'm doing?!

Another example: I had a question for someone in the office that I KNOW she won't be able to help me with. So I just moved on to other work until the person came. She had to ask me what it was I needed? Like WTF? So I told her what my question was and she tried to answer it and what she pretty much said was BS. I KNEW she couldn't have helped me,

And oh, when I chit chat at work (and I don't stop working when I chit chat by the way), she says my name and points at her watch (I WANNA SLAP HER SO BAAAD), but when she chit chats, she stops work (because she can't multi-task for sh*t) and goes on for 10 minutes!!!

  1. I can see how that would be really annoying. It seems to me like she has some kind of inferiority issue where she constantly has to assert her knowledge (or lack thereof) and authority. Is there a large age difference between you two? I have had issues before where just because I was 19,20,21 bosses felt like I musn't know my you-know-what from my elbow and had little faith even though time and time again I showed them otherwise. Just know that it's her problem, not yours, and maybe be a little more (politely) outspoken when she gives you a hard time. I've learned that agreeing and not nicely stating my side of things just purpetuates that they're right about whatever it is they're bothering you with. Anyway, good luck!

  2. Actually you dont sound like you are trying very hard to get on with her or your team...if i had her problem with a staff member[you] i would take you to coffee then tell you too pull your head in or get re allocated tasks where you cant talk ..probably right next too me

My assumption is based on content of your rant ! and my name is NOT Suzy !

  3. Think of a question you can ask your manager which would require her to do some actual work herself to provide you an answer.  Something she may need to research, look up, or make some phone calls about.  AND something which would be helpful for you to do your job.  She will put off doing this work.  Every time she gets up your butt, ask her if she got the information your asked her about.  If she says she did not, ask her when you can expect it.  (If, by chance, she did get you the info quickly, think of a new question).  Soon, she will start avoiding you....and if she is avoiding you she won't be micro-managing you.

    Good luck.
